Medicare Insurance in St. Joseph, Stevensville & Lincoln Township
Medicare gives you several ways to arrange your coverage, and the best choice depends on what matters most to you.
Some people prefer Original Medicare with a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan because they value the freedom to see doctors and specialists who accept Medicare without being tied to a Medicare Advantage network. Others prefer Medicare Advantage (Part C) because they like the lower premiums and additional benefits that may be available with some plans.
Prescription drug coverage through Part D is another important part of Medicare for many people. And if you have Original Medicare with a Medicare Supplement, you may also want to consider separate dental, vision, and hearing insurance for services that Medicare does not cover comprehensively.
The important thing isn’t simply finding the cheapest plan. It’s understanding what you’re getting for your money and whether the coverage fits the way you actually use healthcare.
If You’re Considering a Medicare Supplement
For people who value flexibility and predictable medical costs, Medicare Supplement insurance can be an attractive option.
A Medigap plan can help cover certain costs that Original Medicare leaves to you, and it generally doesn’t operate through the same type of provider network used by Medicare Advantage plans. That can be particularly important if you travel, see specialists, or simply want as much freedom as possible when choosing where to receive care.
There are different Medicare Supplement plans and insurance companies to consider, so comparing the available options can be worthwhile.
When appropriate, we’ll also ask about your health history because it can affect what Medicare Supplement options may be available to you. We’ll explain what we’re looking at and why, rather than leaving you to figure it out yourself.
And if you already have Original Medicare and a Medicare Supplement, don’t overlook dental, vision, and hearing coverage. These benefits may require separate insurance, and we can help you determine whether adding coverage makes sense for you.
If You’re Considering Medicare Advantage
Medicare Advantage, also known as Part C, can be a good choice for many people. These plans can offer attractive premiums and may include additional benefits such as dental, vision, hearing, or fitness benefits.
But it’s important to look beyond the premium.
Medicare Advantage plans can use provider networks, and those networks matter here in Southwest Michigan. Before choosing or changing plans, make sure you understand whether your doctors, specialists, hospitals, and other providers are participating in the plan’s network.
You’ll also want to understand the plan’s copayments, coinsurance, deductibles, prescription coverage, and maximum out-of-pocket costs.
A plan that looks attractive because of its premium may not be the best value for you if it doesn’t provide the doctors, hospitals, benefits, or level of cost protection you want.
If you’re considering Medicare Advantage, we’ll help you look at those details and understand what you’re actually choosing.
During Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period
The Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) is often when people take a closer look at their Medicare coverage. Maybe your premiums or benefits have changed. Perhaps your prescriptions aren’t covered the way you expected, your doctor is no longer participating with your Medicare Advantage plan, or you’re simply wondering whether you’re getting good value for what you’re paying.
You don’t have to wait until you’re completely frustrated with your coverage to ask questions.
If you’re considering a change, this is a good time to have a conversation and find out what your options look like for the coming year.
Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period
If you’re already enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan, you may also have an opportunity to make a change during the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (OEP), January 1 through March 31. This period is for people who are already enrolled in Medicare Advantage at the beginning of the year and allows one change to their coverage.
If your Medicare Advantage plan isn’t working the way you expected after the new year begins, it’s worth giving us a call to see what options may be available.
Why Work With an Independent Medicare Agent?
When you work with an independent Medicare agent, you’re not limited to the products of one insurance company.
We can look at available options from multiple insurers and help you understand the differences. We’re not going to tell you that one company or one type of Medicare plan is automatically right for everyone.
Instead, we’ll start by asking questions.
What are you trying to accomplish with your healthcare coverage?
What’s working well for you now?
What isn’t working?
Have you had a frustrating experience with your current coverage?
And when it’s relevant, we’ll ask additional questions about your situation so we can determine which options may actually make sense for you.
That’s different from calling a national call center where you’re simply another enrollment to process.

Sometimes their prescriptions aren’t covered the way they expected. And sometimes they simply have the feeling that there has to be a better way to arrange their coverage.
You don’t have to know exactly what you need before you call.
A phone conversation can often put things into perspective. Tell us what’s going on, what you’re trying to accomplish, and what you’d like to change. We’ll answer your questions, explain your options, and see if we can get you pointed in the right direction.
