Medicare Is Different for Everyone
There isn’t one Medicare plan that’s right for everybody.
Someone turning 65 and leaving employer coverage may have very different questions from someone who has been on Medicare for several years and is wondering whether their current coverage still makes sense.
Your doctors may be important to you. Your prescriptions may be a major consideration. You may want the broader provider access that comes with Original Medicare and a Medicare Supplement, or you may be looking closely at Medicare Advantage plans and the benefits they offer.
That’s why we don’t start with a particular insurance product.
We start with you and what your healthcare goals are.
We’ll talk about what you’re currently doing, what matters to you, and what you’re hoping your coverage will do. Then we can look at the options that make sense to consider.
Where You Live Can Matter
Medicare is a federal government program, but the insurance options available to you can vary depending on where you live.
This is particularly important when you’re looking at Medicare Advantage. Those plans use provider networks, and the doctors, specialists, hospitals, and other healthcare providers included in one plan may not be the same as those included in another.
If you live in Southwest Michigan, you may already have relationships with healthcare providers associated with systems such as Bronson Healthcare, Corewell Health, Ascension Borgess, Oaklawn Hospital, and other local and regional providers.
That doesn’t mean a particular Medicare Advantage plan automatically includes every provider in one of those systems. It means your existing doctors and healthcare relationships are worth considering when you’re comparing plans.
We can help you look at those details and ask the right questions before you make a decision.
If you’re considering Medicare Supplement coverage, the situation is different. Medicare Supplement plans work alongside Original Medicare rather than using the same type of private plan network structure found with Medicare Advantage. That broader access to Medicare-participating providers is one of the reasons some people prefer this approach.
The right choice depends on what you’re looking for, your circumstances, and the coverage available where you live.
Medicare Help for Southwest Michigan
People come to us at all different points along their Medicare journey.
Turning 65
If Medicare is new to you, there’s a lot to take in. You may be trying to understand when to enroll, what Original Medicare covers, whether you need additional coverage, and what your choices are beyond Parts A and B.
You don’t have to know all of that before you call.
Reviewing your current coverage
If you’ve already been on Medicare for a while, your situation may have changed. Your doctors may have changed. Your prescriptions may be different. Your priorities may have changed.
And Medicare plans can change from year to year as well.
Sometimes it makes sense to stay right where you are. Sometimes it doesn’t. A review can help you understand the difference.
Comparing Medicare Advantage
Medicare Advantage is Medicare coverage offered through private insurance companies. These plans are approved by Medicare and typically provide your Medicare Part A and Part B benefits through the private plan. Many also include prescription drug coverage and additional benefits.
If you’re considering Medicare Advantage, we’ll help you look beyond the headline benefits and pay attention to the things that actually matter to you.
Looking at Medicare Supplement coverage
Medicare Supplement, or Medigap, coverage works differently from Medicare Advantage. These plans are designed to work with Original Medicare and help pay certain costs that Original Medicare doesn’t cover.
For some people, the ability to use Medicare-participating providers without being tied to a private Medicare Advantage network is an important consideration.
We’ll explain how the different approaches work so you can decide which one deserves a closer look.
Dental, Vision & Hearing Coverage
Original Medicare and Medicare Supplement coverage generally do not pay for routine dental, vision, or hearing care. If you’re considering Original Medicare with a Medicare Supplement, you may also want to consider separate insurance coverage for those expenses.

Prescription drug coverage
Your prescriptions can be an important part of the decision, too.
The plan with the lowest premium isn’t necessarily the plan that gives you the lowest overall cost once your medications are taken into account. Drug formularies, pharmacies, copays, coinsurance, and other plan details can all matter.
That’s why we look at the coverage as a whole rather than focusing on one number.
What You Can Expect When You Call Us
We’re not interested in putting you through a sales presentation before we know what you’re actually looking for.
We’ll just have a conversation.
We’ll ask a few questions about your situation, your healthcare needs, the doctors you want to keep, your prescriptions, and the things that are most important to you.
Then we’ll explain what we’re seeing and talk through the options that may be worth considering.
We work with numerous insurance carriers that offer Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement, and Part D options, along with other insurance products that may be appropriate depending on your needs.
But having a lot of products available doesn’t mean we need to start the conversation by talking about products.
Our job is to understand your goals and help you understand your choices.
If there’s a plan that looks like a good fit, we’ll explain why. If something doesn’t look right for your situation, we’ll tell you that, too.
And if you decide you’re not ready to do anything, that’s ok.
There’s No Need to Have It All Figured Out
You might already know exactly what you want to ask.
Or you might have a stack of Medicare mail sitting on the kitchen table and have no idea where to start.
Both are fine.
You can call us with a specific question, or you can simply tell us what’s going on and we’ll take it from there.
Our assistance is provided at no additional cost to you when you work with us as your insurance agency. If you enroll in a plan through us, the insurance company compensates us according to its compensation schedule for placing the business with them.
Let’s Talk About It
Sometimes the easiest way to figure out Medicare is to stop reading about it for a minute and talk to someone.
Grab a cup of coffee and give us a call.
Tell us what you’re trying to figure out, what you’re concerned about, or what you already know. We’ll spend some time talking it through and see if we can help.
There’s no need to make a decision just because you called.
Call Maple Valley Insurance Group at 269-244-3420 and let’s talk.
We primarily work with Southwest Michigan Medicare clients by phone and virtually, which makes it easy to have a detailed conversation even if you’re some distance from our office. If you’re nearby and prefer to meet face-to-face, we can also arrange an in-person appointment when our schedule permits.
Medicare Coverage Across Southwest Michigan
We work with Medicare clients throughout Southwest Michigan, including communities across the region and along the major corridors connecting them. This includes communities such as St. Joseph, Stevensville, and Lincoln Township, where local healthcare providers and Medicare plan networks can be important considerations.
As you move from one community to another, the Medicare options and provider networks available to you can change. That’s one reason we don’t try to treat Southwest Michigan as one giant insurance market.
The ZIP code where you live matters.
So does your doctor.
So do your prescriptions.
And so do the things that are important to you.
Our role is to put those pieces together and help you understand what your options look like where you live.
